Interesting to note that Reliable Man has just disposed of Meandre rather easily in the Niel today. I've had two proper bets on French racing this season - Reliable Man in the GPDP and Meandre today. Watching this video gives no reason to believe RM could turn the form around over the same course and distance. It's a difficult game at times!
@GBeret83 The French Derby was 12f until a few years back. They reduced the distance to be in tune with modern breeding trends where speed is much more in favour than stamina.
I hear a lot of different racing analyst in Europe call the Grand Prix De Paris the "new French Derby"!! I've always wondered why they don't extend the Prix Du Jockey Club distance out to 12f? Every other classic Derby for 3yr.old's in Europe that I'm aware of is raced over 12f. I.E., the Epsom Derby, Irish Derby, and German Derby.
Just watched the replay of the Prix Du Jockey Club again, and there's no doubt that Reliable Man stays a strong 10f. But to me, he looked a little "iffy" over 12f in this race. That's why I'm anxious to see him again at 12f in the Prix Niel. If Reliable Man doesn't get the 12f in the Prix Niel any better than he did in the Grand Prix De Paris? I don't think I consider him for an Arc bet? TJMO.
@TheEquiline, I agree 110%!! Meandre has got a lightning turn of foot!! After seeing him in the Grand Prix De Paris, I think I'd be a bit more inclined to back Meandre in the Arc than I would Pour Moi. JMO.
Jings more you look at this better it gets. That Reliable Man will be better on real soft ground. Hard to knock Meandre. Cant see Nathaniel beating them for speed. Yer Arc winner's maybe there. 10s wont change your life tho.
I think Seville will be a much better horse next season, he seems to be improving. As for the Arc i still think that Pour Moi is the one to beat but Meandre was impressive here, he was eased before the finish line. That was an easy victory for him.

Meandre become new serious contender for Arc de Triomphe. Another one for André Fabre with Pour Moi.
