It was called "Nash Bridges". It reeked. I remember because at the time I very much wanted to name my pitbull "Gnash" but couldn't because I was afraid it would bring the hideous Don Johnson to mind.
Anyhow, that don Johnson guy starred in a cop show that was filmed in S.F. but I can't remember the name of it. Not so good a show, but the Cuda was good and so was that 20 something Brunette
I lived recently in SF for five yrs and worked in law enforcement. The sad thing today is that the SFPD is in such a state of disarray it would be hard to make a credible show about them kicking ass. Still some good cops and investigators are there, but management and morale there is just off the deep end, I'm afraid. No cops (or fire) can afford to live in the City and County! (Remember Dirty Harry and Bullitt in their little city apartments on SF corners I just can't quite place!!
Ah yes, Kate Jackson in her mid-20s (check her on the Rookies credits - wow! That's why men used to fight wars.) and Angie Dickinson, mid-40s and smokin' still (over 15 yrs after Rio Bravo!)
It still IS on the air in San Francisco! Check KOFY TV 20/cable 13 at 10 am every weekday. I hope they continue airing it, they have for a long while so far.
If that episode with Bill Bixby is the one where he portrays a crazy guy who pretends to be a policeman, I've seen it lots of times.
There's a TV station here in San Francisco, KOFY TV 20/cable 13, that airs reruns of The Streets of San Francisco, Perry Mason, Maude, Different Strokes, and some other retro TV programming. We viewers get to vote on some of what they air. I'm glad KOFY's back with some retro programming. I grew up watching KOFY and some of the retro TV shows they air.
It's a pity we don't have many channels in the UK that repeat these classic US shows, although Bravo show The A-Team and the Sci-Fi (UK) Channel occasionally screens V, including the 84-85 series. There was another Bill Bixby episode in which he played a hitman. I only saw the last few minutes when he finally gets cornered by Stone and Keller.
did you notice that there're different version of the theme-song inside the series ??? In this version I'm missing the distinctive Wha-wha-guitar that in the other version is mutch more active in the foreground
When this series was made, Pier 39 was just an abandoned pier, the Embarcadero freeway was still blocking the view from Market to short of Pier 39, SOMA was far scarier - the Tenderloin was anything SOMA, the Giants stadium was part of that, etc.
