Last names MOSTLY end with "ic"
Why? I dont know, I guess you could say its to recognize where people are from, for instance, when you see a person with "ic" in their last name, you know they are Serbian.

its a diminutive which in some sense signifies something like "son of" ... petrovic = child of petar / little petar
and its actually just -ic

my english is very bad. but i try to explain it.

Ivanovic- this is meanig that the great-grandfather is called IVAN.
Jankovic- great-grandfather is called JANKO
The ending C is meanig that we are Christians. We in serbia dont write latain we use kyril. so the letter C we write like this ђ. this ђ symboled church. so also
Jankovic- that the great-grandfather is called JANKO and the the C - ђ is chruch. or heard to the church
lat. Jankovic - kyr. ЈанкoвиЋ.

It`s "Rum dum dum" (maybe you can read it right if I write "Room doom doom". Old serbian song mostly known by Stefan St. Mokranjac becouse he put it in his 15`teen "rukovet" (collection of songs from geographical area) and it`s named "Songs from old Serbia".
