I felt so small in my little world. As mystifying as the one I'm supposed to be surfaced in was, I couldn't help but drift like a useless thought passing through casually. There was a certain heaviness in my heart, weighing me down. My stomach heaved, twisting beneath my belly.

I felt like I was tripping. Tripping into a large ditch in the ground that has been dug out long ago, too much for me to process. But that's okay. Because somehow I saw that light above my pounding head, ready to guide me into some sanctuary I could take shelter in and crawl up into a little ball.

My attention was stretched too far and like a rubber band it snapped back before it could break. My bleary eyes felt my eyelids blink over the blank stare I had sustained for an estimated ten minutes.

To fill the lonely silence, I coughed into the opening of my fist, averting Justin's attention. His little smile punched me in the gut, my heart picking up in speed. In fear he would hear my hummingbird heart, I quickly darted my eyes around, searching for something to say.

He reached for my hand and gave a reassuring smile, indicating some sort of companionship between us. We never really talked but for the first time I felt wanted by him... or by anyone at all. I tilted my head in thorough confusion as to why he was interested in me all of a sudden. Did I say something earlier today?

I sunk into my seat as he drew his hand back. Every detail surrounding me was emphasized and defined. I heard the faint drops of coffee hurdling from the corners of polished tables and the small shrieks of protest from the legs of chairs girls scooted in restlessly. I just sunk deeper as the blonde curly-haired waitress approached our table with a bittersweet grin playing on her cherry blossom lips.

My lips were strange. Sort of like a cupid's arrow. Two pointed mountains on the top lip and one big dip on the bottom. I offered my sweetest smile and gently laid my laminated menu onto the stack resting on her firm arms. She gladly accepted them and shoved them into a large pocket in her dough-caked ebony apron. She brushed her petite hands onto its surface and pulled out a pad, making eye contact with either of us.

I placed my clammy palms onto both sides of my face and my chin dimpled in patience. Justin perked up in his seat and uttered an "Oh, all right." He slapped the table twice with both of his hands and tapped his chin jokingly with a bandaged finger. Actually, all his fingers were bandaged.

I scrutinized his playful expression and spotted a little mole under his left eye and a faint scar obviously withering under his left eye as well. Again, my mind drifted. How'd he get that scar?

"Miss, miss, miss!" the waitress called, her voice raised as if she had been calling me for some time now.

"I'm so sorry! I wasn't paying attention," I apologized, trying my hardest not to stutter.

I scrambled with the neatly stacked napkins in front of us and my eyebrows knitted together.

"Uhm, I'll have whatever they're ordering," I spoke with a fervent tone, my voice reverberating softly off the polished table's surface.

"They? It's only you two," the waitress inquired in confusion.

"No Tony Alex and.... they set me up," i said, my voice trailing off towards the end. "Uhm, whatever Justin's having," I announced, nodding once to myself to try an convince the voices in my head. I can fool others but not myself. I sighed, resting my dimpled chin on my hand attentively.

Justin watched intently, this time studying me. I peered at him discreetly and grinned, my finger creating small circles on the table. I stood up, stretched a little and sat back down, beginning to wonder why I just did that.

Justin grinned mischeviously at me.

"You know, you're cute when you're nervous," he complemented, tapping his finger on the table.

And once again, I sank deep into my chair. Although my cheeks burned with a scarlet haze and my stomach churned, I nodded my head with a small smile breezing across my cupid's arrow lips. And in my world, I felt so small, shriveling in happiness.

"Well you're about to get adorable. How would you like to go on a date with me? You know, where you know that it's just us and not because Tony and Alex are idiots." A bigger smile inched across his lips.
