Tennessee Voices for Children:
Tennesse Voices for Children's mission is to speak out as active advocates for families and children with emotional and behavioral disorders. A comprehensive, coordinated system of care is needed to ensure that mental health services are child-centered, family-driven, community based, and culturally and linguistically competent. Mental illness is real but very treatable. Early and effective mental health treatment can prevent a significant proportion of delinquent and violent youth from future violence and crime. It also enables children and adolescents to succeed in school, to become socially competent, and to fully experience the developmental opportunities of childhood. Mental health treatment should be coordinated and individually based.
