Here's a clip from the 1997 Smoky Mountain Jamboree. Jeff allowed me to play bass with him occasionally and it sure made me proud.

  • I'm curious why AustinSTEEL has a problem with the bass player?

  • @bikeman11865 He doesn't. He was just picking on me since I am the bass player. Austin is one of my boys.

    Thanks for asking

  • I can't read the name on the guitar, is that a Deckley?

Jeff was tops in the steel guitar game, R.I.P :)

  • Yes, that was a Thomas steel.

  • This man invented the universal tuning for steel guitar. I read his article in Guitar Player in '77 when I had my 12 string MSA and converted it over. Two necks in one...sorta.....

  • I miss Mr J Newman everyday.....

The People in Heaven must be happy......

  • This is just SOOOOOOOOO good!!! Thanks for preserving the memory Bill.

  • I met Jeff years ago in Watertown. I was introduced by my good friend Bob Browning at one of the steel jams they used to have there....2 greater men have not walked the earth!

  • Jeff is without a doubt one of the Grand Masters of the E9/B6 Universal tuning and THE Grand Master of pedal steel instruction. His music and innovations will live on!!

  • Thanks for another great video! I hope to see more of Jeff Newman's playing. He was truly a terrific musician. You a very talented musician yourself Bill, that Bass sounds solid to me. Thank you for all of your work in posting these wonderful videos! They certainly are appreciated.

  • Excellent sounding guitar, great tone.
