@contessaoreilly No, it is still Used quite often, under a new name sodium lauryl sulfate. It helps the toothpaste to foam.
-
@lumabi25 It was a trademark for sodium lauryl sulfate.

I like the part when he says: "Why not try pepsodent - tomorrow" Today´s commercials says, try it TODAY ;D
-
And it also ran in Denmark, translated to Danish, in the 1950's I think (before my time).

"Irium" was an ingredient Pepsodent originally introduced during World War II, and, after a massive advertising campaign during and after the war, occasionally emphasized "Irium" in its commercials during the '50s and early '60s {in the original 1957 ads, the another formula, "IMP", was stressed}. "Irium" was actually Lever Brothers' trademarked name for a common ingredient found in most toothpastes these days, "sodium lauryl sulfate".
Great ad, but seems a bit dated for 1964. Must have been one that hung around for a while, or they just rehashed to keep it up to date. The original ran in the US at least 8 years earlier.
Thanks for putting it up !

The UK ran the same Pepsodent ads (with British vocalists redubbung the same jingle). This ad campaign hung around in the States until the very early Sixties.
