  • Also to add to this, the light will burn your skin after about 5 minutes of exposure. It'll give you a hell of a sunburn. Same thing happens to your eyes. Known as flashes. It can blister your skin. But your eyes a bit more sensitive. It doesn't take long to get a flash to the eyes, and its very painful depending on the degree. Burning 1 rod is all you have to burn to get a severe flash. Depending on how close you are to the weld too. Its radiation. The further away you are, the less of a chance

  • fuck man me yesterday i was trying my new welder, and i was just arcking it and closing my eyes, but geez fucking got the tan of the century i looked like a friggin red lobster , now i always have my full mask on!

Like DescryHeart says 'its radiation'. Mostly its intense UV radiation. Your eyes felt weird means your eyes WERE damaged : (

But eyes aren't really good at signaling pain. (OK except if you get something on the outer lens like a bug or sand).

    You don't believe?

Try gently but firmly pressing your closed eyes. Your hands tell you 'pressing' but your eyes show dots and flashes of colour.

Think - Just being out in snow & sun can blind you. So Welding - argh!!!

  • yah, according to my teacher, if you were to see directly to an arc 20 feet away for about 10 seconds you would get a flash.

  • well as soon as you start to need glasses..... lmao nah should use a 13 lense all times i use a shade 10 it all on the amps and volts u welding with it a variable

  • but..... What are the consecuences? How many years you can work before to get blind?

  • no kiddin..lol
