@istocco And what of it? Redfine the genre, make it work. Art evolves. Fuck traditionalism.

Nobody talks about the bitter humour of Tom in this piece. That's the mood of this "tango"

@mcbhaine I could do the tango to this, it wouldn't look right but I could still do it. Who's to say the combination wouldn't work in some interesting way? There have been many, many artists of different genres who for multiple reasons have proclaimed their artwork to be what people wouldn't traditionally call those certain pieces of art. Such as a poem being a painting. It started with Andy Warhol and has been going since, there has to be some reason he called it 'Tango' right?

spoken like a true ignoramus, with an attempt to be "edgy" thrown in at the end. "Oh, Gee - you're such an anarchist!" . tango is a combo of dance and music. if one cannot do the dance to the would-be-tango-music, it isn't tango. there may be other ways to "redefine" it, but the beat is not one of them. still, this typical Waits free-form jazz improv is excellent and full of emotion.

Fantastic!

@kingcroak This is really not something they could dance to - so in a sense, this is not a tango and that's it. But I tend to agree with you - there is so much traditional, danceable tango out there for dancers, and for us, who crave the new and the unusual, for us, there are artists like Tom Waits.
I'm a pianist, but when I hear Tom play, I don't dare to touch the instrument that day anymore...

simply horrible...this is not the tango tempo, this is just a jazz session...no way!
-
simplemente horrible, este no es el tempo del tango, es de jazz...

Sounds like something that was meant to accompany some specific something, but Tom Wait's sense of rhythm and musicality certainly isn't absent.
