This is a short clip from a stage production of "The Woman in Black," adapted from the novel by Susan Hill. Structured as a play-within-a-play, the cast consists of two men - a young actor/teacher and an older gentleman who is haunted by his past - who use little more than the power of storytelling to recreate a ghostly experience that befell the protagonist many years before.

In this scene, Arthur Kipps has arrived at the deserted Eel Marsh House and explores the empty halls, the "nine lives causeway," and the nearby burial ground - until he catches a glimpse of an eerie, familiar woman among the tombstones...
Note: the video is rough in places and the sound is low.

  • the scene where he is alone in the house and suddenly just hears the faint sound of the rocking chair on the floorboards upstairs gradually getting louder as it rocks faster and faster is truly the scariest thing i have ever experienced in live theatre. i think it was partly so scary because you can relate to moments when ur alone and there a strange noise that u cant quite identify and then u suddenly realise what the sound is as the character in the play does. pure horror

  • wheres the scene with the rocking chair??? i cant find it...
