Pre-N 802.11n wireless devices have been available for quite a while and they have not been received all that well in general. Quite simply, many consumers didn't see the point of upgrading their gear to a new standard that may or may not be compatible with their current wireless devices while offering performance that wasn't all that much better. Furthermore, the uncertainty of the final 802.11n standard seemed to doom 'N' to an early grave.

How quickly times change....

With the end of 802.11n standard ratification odyssey in sight, and with increasing quality, compatibility and performance of the gear, we might finally be seeing the start of the switch to 802.11n multipath (MIMO) wireless. --- In this episode of 'gadget', we take a look at Belkin's Draft-N salvo in the form of their N1 line of wireless devices. With decent performance, simple setup, and a price point that makes it a no-brainer to choose over 802.11b/g gear, Belkin might just change your mind about wireless.

  • can the wireless n routers be changed to support wireless g adapters, like the wireless adapter for the xbox?

  • huthutdudeman42,

Almost all Wireless-N routers will be backwards compatible with all previous protocols in their frequency. (i.e. B/G/N)

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • when you say Draft-N can be upgraded, you mean a hardware or software upgrade? and how will it likely be upgraded? thanks

  • meowmix0901,

That depends on what they settle on when they FINALLY finish the N standard. For some hardware it will be a simple firmware update. For other gear it will not be possible with the radios built into the device.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • here its going some time in mid-late 09'

  • FRtrain4750,

Well I would like to see it before I believe it! :) -- They've been promising us the N standard for the better part of three years now.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • your sexy,

oh and hey nice video :D

You're more thorough than most geeks on youtube trying to make a name for themselves.

Instead of just showing off the hardware you're reviewing you actually break things down into chat that even the "non-uber geek" can understand.

    Good Job. :)

  • very nice vedio thanx man

  • MadVirus5000,

That depends on a number of factors, the biggest being if your current network is congested. If it is, the the QoS features will make a big difference. Peace,

     Fr. Robert
