@70mjc Dude! Right on. So tired of people hating.

I do really like a lot of the newer stuff, but I feel like Son Volt would be better if Jay Farrar rocked the shit out of his guitar more often.

No, Wilco played the next year.

I live in Chickamauga . . . Sweet.

funny...didn't Wilco also play Bonnaroo that year? I wonder if either band hid in the back to watch the other.

Black Eye is a fantastic song and probably my favorite original, but my favorite on that album is Farrar's rendition of the folk standard Moonshiner. And as brilliant as the rest of the album is, for me, it's not even close.
Anodyne's "best song" is not as distinguishable. The whole album kind of bounces back and forth from Farrar's despair and Tweedy's hope...and becomes, possibly, the best album of the decade. It's also the reason I yearn for a UT reunion; they quit at their apex.

History lesson from a southerner: Chickamauga was an evil, bloody day that neither side should lionize
-
sorry but Jay wrote it, he doesn't sing songs written by jeff
-
And that is why you are the winner.
Idiots, last I checked music wasn't a competition. Son Volt and Jay Farrar are amazing. Jay F. is a legend in his own time. Jeff Tweedy and Wilco are amazing, Jeff T. is simply brilliant and brilliant may not even do him justice. Both are gifts to men and people insist on arguing. It's like comparing Jimmy Page and David Gilmour....get lives!
