Proyecto Mezcla - Castillo y Vigía
This is one of the songs Mezcla played during their album-presentation on March 24th 2011. The album 'Amigo' can be ordered via www.mezcla.nl, and does not include this particular song.
Atarés is one of many vibrant and lively neighborhoods in the centre of Havana, Cuba. It is one of the barrios where the rumba flourishes. Among the great rumberos of this neighborhood was Macho Calderón, who played quinto in the band Agüiri Yo, and unfortunately passed away in 2011. Macho used to hang out, do his business and meet people at the corner of Castillo and Vigía, hence the title of this song. It is a place that never sleeps, there is always something going on. Sometimes slow, lazy, when people play dominoes in the shade, sometimes frantic when the cajones are being played. This is also the place where Pablitoss, percussionist of Mezcla, spent most of his time during his stays in Cuba, observing, listening and learning from Macho, Chavalonga, Fariñas and many others. This song is dedicated to them, la gente en la esquina.
Pablitoss - Percussion; Roy van der Lee - Guitar; Leon Hoeks - Guitar; Joachim Henriëtta - Piano; Robert Hermans - Bass; Leon Schmitz - Drums.
