The whoosh bottle is a neat demonstration to show flammability, expansion of gases due to combustion, and also shows how a rocket works. 20 ml of methanol is injected into a 5 gallon water cooler jug and allowed to turn to vapor. Light the top and keep away! Its cool!

  • lol my science teacher jsut showed us exactly that today im tryin to figure out if there are other thing i can use to recreate that since i cant exactly get my hands on methanol

  • never try this at home but isopropyl alcohol will also work. It will burn more orange and yellow as it is not as pure.

  • Try it with petrol, might get your hand blown away.

  • safety first folks!

  • can you make a rocket with this?

  • good question. The opening of the bottle in this demo looks just like a rocket cone. This is what funnels the expanding gas and makes it leave at high speeds. We have set this bottle on its side and shot the bottle down the hallway as a land rocket.

  • ITS BUNGIES FLAMING HELMET!!

  • THAT IS AWESOME!!!!

    :D

  • the screams sound demonic in slow mo

  • @atemme Methanol on a race track has an invisible flame. I had wondered if it created visible light in the dark. Figured it would be blue. The beginning of the combustion process reminds me of the cryogenic rocket engine.

  • The slow motion girls sound. When a T-rex hears that sound, he thinks "There's a pretty one in the distance."

  • that was the coolest science teacher

  • @routhoula Absolutely, you can see the thrust created by this smalla mount of fuel just by the way the bottle pushes down, you might even be able to channel the exhaust gasses with a more efficient nozzle geometry. your biggest challenge would be produceing a fuel delivery system.

  • theres a devil in that bottle!

  • @pooklluvs69 haha wuz about to say the same thing guess i dont need to :D

  • lots of fun to inject methanol into your car's intake - instant HP
