@2pintgardener and JJs, Hugh didn't write all the songs ( although if ya read his books ya would think he did) Frankly some of the post Hugh material is just as good in fact in some cases better. JJB is easily as an accomplished a song writer, he just doesn't make a meal out of it, like Hugh.

@almklit yes I heard that only a week or so ago in an interview with JJB. Apparantly he was a benevolent kind of chap, very supportive of the band when they were struggling in the early days. Thanks anyway.

Apparently this early song was influencde by the song Sister Ray by Velvet Underground, though I think it's a unique Stranglers song as the chords are quite different.. Some say it echoes Born to be wild. Well the Jury is out for that one. To be honest most bands when they start out there first songs are always somewhat influenced. Look at early U2 very derivative.

@Icequeen1962 I think he was the landlord of one of the venues they played at in London, Red Cow or Hope and Anchor, one of those not sure which.

great song, but does anyone know what a Grainger man is?lol

Great! Long time since this song was aired. This one's on the down-stroke baz. Strap yourself in and prepare to solo.

Top London burlesque club with the best burlesque show videos by far. Keep up the good work

@TheManus02 misogynist! what crap. i have been a fan since 1977 and have lost count of the times i have seen them. they have always had a staunch female fan base. fact is they are no longer 20 odd year old kids , they have matured . its ridiculous to expect them to perform like the they did 30 years ago.get real .

Baz sure looks like the pub landlord

Ive seen the Stranglers 13 times, always with Hugh at the helm.
Hated Roberts and just couldn't understand why the rest of the band went with him ?
With Baz up front with JJ they have that killer instinct back and are truly back to their best.
Best live band ever.
