Perhaps the greatest animated version of Charles Dickens' classic, and some of the finest realistic animation of humans seen on film, this features the voice of Alistair Sim, reprising his role as Ebenezer Scrooge from the beloved 1951 film Scrooge.

Not available on DVD. This version is derived from VHS.

The brief 30-minute format, lack of musical score and focus on quality animation rather than emotion does mean that the story is truncated somewhat in this version, compared to a full feature film. However, in nearly all respects this version might be considered definitive - as definitive as any adaptation of this often-adapted story can be! A highly visual Christmas classic from the ever-brilliant Richard Williams.

It's either the hand-drawn style or the frequent fades to black, but the style of this short reminds me of the French-Czech sci-fi cartoon "Fantastic Planet" (1973).

I have an old vhs tape of this special from Good Times video but this recording here is mint condition quality and has a few moments of animation that was edited out of my tape recording of this classic animation. It is great to compare this to the restored Alister Sim live action black and white classic that I have on dvd! On the dvd's extras there are the illustrations of the early book and I saw how the artwork looks just like this special! Thank you for uploading this!
