Profoundly deaf since birth, Amanprit relied on hearing aids and lip-reading for all communication until the age of 21.
Last year Amanprit was the first UK winner of the Cochlear Graeme Clark Scholarship Award, an award open to Cochlear implant recipients around the world which was set up to support them financially in their further education. Amanprit was awarded £6,000 to continue her BSc degree in Geography with Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Birmingham.
This short documentary gives an insight into cochlear implants from the recipient's viewpoint.
