Community College Head Defends Illegal Immigrant Policy

The president of the state community college system is standing by the new policy that allows illegal immigrants to enroll on all campuses.

Martin Lancaster says doing otherwise runs counter to a nearly 50-year-old tradition of open admissions.

In a 1,200-word statement sent today, Lancaster defended the change. He says children of people who entered the country illegally shouldn't be punished after attending public schools by being denied the opportunity to better their lives through education.

The new rule overrides a 2004 policy that gave the state's 58 community colleges discretion whether to admit undocumented
immigrants, and nearly two-thirds of the campuses chose to do so.

About 340 students who fall into the category are currently enrolled statewide. At Pitt Community College, 9 illegal immigrants enrolled for the fall semester.

The five leading major-party candidates for governor oppose the change.

Wow I am amazed at how many people are so concerned with the fact that their tax money goes to help people get a chance of becoming a person of meaning for their community. I don't pay 4 billion dollars in taxes a year, like some people say they do in the comments section: however I do mind when my money goes to the war effort which is stained with countless "casualties" which is simpler words mean sobody's daugther, son, or somebody's parents. I'm of course talking about innocent civiliants.

These illegal aliens are taking money and classroom seats that should go to legal residents. I didnt see anyone jump up to help when citizens of this country cant afford to go to school. If you cant afford it then tough. These are the kinds of decisions that get made when affirmative action hires college administrators.

This man is an idiot!!! If they are receiving federal funds, they should be stripped of them. That is aiding and abeiting. We have laws in this country!!!! We have immigration laws for a reason!!! i think we have been trating illegals with no mercy..we should just shoot them so they do not suffer..that also in return kill crime on the spot..get rid of 30 million illegals and also do away with atleast 15 million cops cause crime will drop like a rock.Inflation will go down Employers will then have to compete in wages to hire us,as well as realty owners doing the same to sell us homes,and so on..wages up inflation down,crime down moral way up and the American way of life restored.
