1,530 dry and mountainous acres with some wet meadows along the Gila River that serves as a refuge for desert bighorn sheep. Nearby to Gila Wilderness—the nations first wilderness area--for great backpacking, hiking, hunting for trophy elk and mule deer, bear, cougar, or fishing for native Gila trout, rainbow trout and German brown trout in the Gila River, San Francisco River and Mimbres River. Nearby attractions include Siver City, the former mining town and ghost town of Mogollon, and the famous Catwalk near Glenwood. Lots of New Mexico history: from Apache Indian warriors like Geronimo and Victorio to Aldo Leopold who was a forest ranger on the Gila National Forest. ----------
Location: New Mexico. About 26 miles above Lordsburg on the north side of the Gila River. ----- Source of Information: Public Lands - http://www.publiclands.org/explore/site.php?id=7913
