Serge Lifar was the last male premier dancer with Serge de Diaghilev's Ballet Russe.
He was trained at the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre in St Petersburg and joined the Diaghilev company in 1923, creating a number of roles, his favorite being the prodigal son in 'Le fils prodigue' (choreography by George Balanchine, and music by Sergei Prokofiev).
In this footage he is shown duelling with the Marquis de Cuevas over the latter's staging of one of his ballets.
