This is the first of two movies that I've dedicated to the revivification of Gene Roddenberry's Masterpiece Star Trek.
The first version uses the music from BSG's first season and is called Kingdom in reference to the title of one of the two versions of BSG's intro's - namely the version used in the United Kingdom. I rather like to imagine that both are possible intro's to a new TV series (movies can only take you so far) but you can see them however you want. As you might guess, I am curious to see how the people who have 'faved' my account react to these two movies and which 'style' they prefer - please comment and let me know for future experiments.
On the subject of the movie itself; the whole thing was an impressive block-busting Summer Flick. As with most Trek movies it got an 8/10 for me. The fact that the plot is so painfully close to Nemesis was part of what upset me about the movie. The ripping of a large number of Star Wars graphics seemed ridiculous when there was already so many unique lasers and effects that were already part of Treks mysticism... and finally, the shakey-cam and lens flare drove me to distraction so much that I was forced to culminate these main issues into the removal of one point. The second point was lost because of the disgusting refit they've done on the Constitution class - I understand that it is supposed to be merganse between the TMP, TNG and TOS designns caused by the rapid surge in Starfleet to try and 'offset' the power that the Romulans seemed to have suddenly gained.... but just in terms of just personal aesthetics I cannot abide the over-inflated portions and slap-dash randomness of the ship itself... especially the 'engine room' which is a particular sore spot.
On the good side, this is still Star Trek... perhaps so much so that people don't realize it. The morals and lessons and flash from the old series is still there - you can even see parts of Voyager, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Enterprise in it (especially the rip-off of Picards bar fight against a group of aliens that was re-used for Kirk with only a lot more blood and a lot less aliens) if you look close enough. My fellow fans this is nothing new... and perhaps that is good, because if it were TOO new... then we'd be abandoning a much loved format wouldn't we? Kirk is still the cocky SOB we all know and tolerate... Spock is still a deep character, Uhura is still an amazingly complicated woman, Sulu and Chekov are still the flat-line comedy relief and Scotty is still an absent-minded genius. This IS Star Trek... if only brought forward a couple generations to satisfy the modern market. As I said, the movie itself ranks among Star Trek: Generations, the Undiscovered Country and only two points bellow Kahn for the sheer gut and wonder that was put into the project itself - this movie has EARNED that ranking and it is my hope that the inevitable sequels will do the same.
In fact, because of how much work was put into it; nuTrek (as it has been called) is sure to bring new blood into a fan base too often mocked by the ignorant and the uninformed who see ALL Trek fans as the epitome of geekhood who won't 'move on' to another television, movie or book series and are perpetually stuck in the past.
That day dawns my friends... and in closing, may Trek live long... and prosper

I am sorry but i cannot and will not buy into this abomination of the Star Trek franchise. The two most damning things are The ruining of the ENTERPRISE. The destruction of Vulcan. Unless these two evils are undone Paramount won't get 1 penny from me. The video you did was however well done but that ship still REALLY BUGS MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

@woofdogmeow - I agree. The Constitution refit sucked. Kirk was a pansy and Spock was emo... but by and large it WAS Trek (and the music rocked) the last 'evil' was done by the novels already so -shrug- not really all that surprising. That said, while it was Trek, it wasn't what I wanted OUT of Trek... it was a kidification that was uneeded when all they had to do was what Gene himself had done. Jump forward a few hundred years - that said I still honor the attempt... if not the result
