One way to convert hammock suspension to a "whoopie sling".

  • is 2mm too thin?

  • @baldycoup

I can't comment on that. I have only used 7/64" Amsteel Blue, which is proven to give a good margin of safety. I personally would not use anything less.

  • what diameter rope are you using I see it comes ins 1/2,1/8, 5/16 the listings I have seen don't show a strength to thickness ratio.

  • @finieclimber

I use either 7/64" or 1/8". Go to Redden Marine's website and search for "amsteel blue". They will give sizes and the related strength. I believe 7/64 is 1600# and 1/8 is about 2400. Plenty strong in those sizes.

  • hi can u tell me how much line i would have to by to make two woopies for my hammock

  • @dbw16d

Depends on how much adjustment you want on each end. I start with 12-14 fee of line on each end for about 6 feet of adjustment.

    Thanks,

I use a 10 - 12 inch bury for the constrictor sections. Some use less, but I stay on the safe side.

  • @nohill4climber I used 22 gauge wire, same thickness. You forgot to show that it REALLY helps if you pre-taper the end before making the bury or the sling. Also, do NOT heat-seal the ends, it just makes a thick blob that makes threading it through the core nearly impossible.

  • @nohill4climber 22 gauge wire- Thanks.

Hello, and thanks for the comments. I use wire of about .025". Heavier will work, but I don't like it much lighter than that. On a Hennessy I usually start with 13 -14 feet of cord due to the method of tying onto the hammock. Could probably get by with less.
