The ill-fated dolphins put on a routine show at West Edmonton Mall. 3 of these dolphins died years later, and the fourth was moved to Florida. The attraction has since been replaced with sea-lions, one of which died en-route to the mall.

  • I actually worked for WEM Marine Life with the dolphins. They were well treated and cared for. As for the sea lions, they are not dying and were in fact just given an excellent health review from CAZA (Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums). The flamingos were transferred to a breeding facility, they were not removed for health reasons.

  • If the dolphins were so well cared for, how do you explain the repeated still-born calves, and the deaths of three of the adults? And how do you explain the death of one of the seal lions en-route to the mall before the new exhibit opened?

  • the dolphins r not there any more now we have see lions

  • Yes, I know. I live in Edmonton. :P

  • the dolphins were soooo much better than those fuckin sea lions.

  • What many people do not know, unless they have seen the documentary video about the dolphins at WEM, is they had another large tank in the lower level of the mall, and they were free to swim from one tank to another through a tunnel. They weren't confined to the tank visible to the public in the mall.

  • @GrahamLeggett i dont doubt they are but i still dont thing they should be indoors it you going to have any cetacean in edmonton then get one that can take the cold its not fare to have them looked in a building. srry mate

  • @GrahamLeggett The Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums has zero credibility; it is entirely staffed by directors and officials of the very same zoos and aquariums that it certifies. Quite a conflict of interest. Additionally, many of the facilities they've certified have horrible track records that are well-established--like Marineland, the Greater Vancouver Zoo, and the Calgary Zoo.

  • It is wrong to keep ANY animal in a Mall let alone in captivity. They don't even get any fresh air being cooped up in a damn mall. It's not right. The tank should have been much larger. There isnt enough room for all 4 dolphins in that tank. Maybe there is a reason why none of the calves lived. So that they wouldnt have to live through all that hell being cooped up np fresh air and being cramped.

  • @Orcinus24x5 Circle of life :/

  • you know how they get each dolphin to ignore the ppl and the stress and focus on the "tricks the perform for YOU"... they revoke their food prior to every show so that wen they give treats as reinforcement for the trick, they are more motivated to perform. no wild animal should be taken fromtheir home and put in a prison! no matter how big the tanks they will never ever ever compare to the ocean where theyre from.

  • @GrahamLeggett o w.e all the animals that have performed for you guys never look happy. DO THEY GET A PAY CHECK???? DO THEY GET A NORMAL LIFE??? NO!

  • I remember when I was 6 years old I saw the dolphins. Then we went on the submarine ride and they did have a diffrent tank. Then also they had sharks in there too as well as fish. I hate the simple fact that they are allowed to have so many animals in that mall.

  • According to the description, W.E.M. kills alot of animals

  • i miss the dolphins but stupid people would like through pennies in and they would choke on them :(

  • i miss those dolphins. :( now they are only playing one sealion and its the same show over and over D:
