Global Institute of Software Technology (GIST) is approved by Jiangsu Provincial Government and jointly established by Microsoft (China) Co., Ltd, Suzhou Science & Technology Town, and Global EduTech Management (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.
GIST is a regular institution of higher learning based on innovation and the only independently-established institution of software technology in Jiangsu Province. We have been granted permission of independent enrollment.
Our institute aims to cultivate qualified, practical and internationally-oriented software personnel by adhering to the education characteristic of "International cooperation, Production-Study-Research integration", putting into practice the cultivation mode of "Classroom teaching -- Project simulation practice -- Paid practice", and giving prominence to the teaching of software technology and foreign languages.
GIST main campus is located in Suzhou Science & Technology Town by Taihu Lake. It covers an area of 360 mu (about 50 acres) with advanced and perfect infrastructure for teaching and living. GIST emphasizes the balance of scientific development of teaching, academic research, extracurricular activities and living. Therefore, the whole campus is divided into five areas: the teaching area, the experimental area, the sports ground, the office area and the residential area. Its design and layout embodies the perfect combination of modern science & technology and the glamour of the ancient Suzhou city. It is an ideal place for students to study and live in.
The faculty consists of well-known professors with Tsinghua University, Microsoft certified lecturers, project managers from enterprises and full-time foreign teachers from Europe and America.At present GIST has 121 faculty, among whom deputy professors and postgraduates account for 90%, the teachers of basic courses 60%, the project training teachers 40% including 22 senior project managers and process management experts from enterprises. And there are 13 experts from abroad and returnees studying abroad, which account for 11%. Moreover, the student-teacher ratio is 19:1.
Since its establishment in 2007, GIST has received cordial support from leaders of state, provincial, municipal levels as well as the software industry. They speak highly of the school-running characteristics and cultivation mode of our institute and lay their great hope on the development of GIST.
Vice Chairman Hu Qili with the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC) pointed out that IT was the lifeline of national economy with software at the core and software was the bright pearl of Hi-tech. Global Institute of Software Technology is run by enterprises, so it has many advantages. Meanwhile, the CPC Committee and the government of Jiangsu Province attach great importance to the development of the software industry. So it is believed that our institute will be able to develop faster and better.
As for main courses of the institute we adopt English original edition teaching materials, using the computer environment in English and slide teaching so that students will be able to acclimatize themselves to the environment with English as work language after graduation.
Professional Foreign Lecturers
To cultivate internationalized software professionals with global vision and communication skills who can adapt themselves to the export-oriented economy, especially the need of fast development in the outsourcing service industry, GIST attaches great importance to foreign language teaching and provides the curriculum with nearly 600-hour foreign language learning whichaccounts for 30-40% of the total course arrangement. Meanwhile, we have a team of foreign senior experts from Europe, the United States and Japan, who has developed a professional training system covering business and software foreign languages.
