The trailer of this great Marlon Brando classic, "THE WILD ONE" (1953).
The Wild One is a 1953 outlaw biker film. It is remembered for Marlon Brando's portrayal of the gang leader Johnny Stabler as a juvenile delinquent, dressed in a leather jacket and driving a 1950 Triumph Thunderbird 6T. Acting opposite of Brando was Lee Marvin as a rival gang leader. This low-budget production had Brando playing a rebel without a cause two years before James Dean.
The film version was based on a January, 1951 short story in Harper's Magazine "The Cyclists' Raid" by Frank Rooney that was published in book form as part of "The Best American Short Stories 1952." The story took a cue from an actual biker street party on the Fourth of July weekend in 1947 in Hollister, California that was elaborately trumped up in Life Magazine (dubbed the Hollister riot) with staged photographs of wild motorcycle outlaw revellers. The Hollister event is now celebrated annually. In the film, the town is located somewhere in California.
While at one point Johnny does threaten Kathy that he could take their cafe apart so fast they won't know what hit them, if they don't stop "needling" him, the bikers for the most part are just generally rowdy in pursuit of a good time, and don't radiate the sinister menace seen in later biker movies based on the Hells Angels, some of whom actually appeared in those films. Interestingly, Sonny Barger, the notorious founder of the Oakland Hells Angels, stated in his memoir that he identified with Chino, and considered Johnny the bully.

  • Believe it or not Brando was riding A Triumph MC... Harleys were not at Hollister, The British bikes were cheaper. About this time tho The Vincent Black Lightning turned a 153 mph lap at Bonneville.. Harleys could barely pull a sick whore off her bed in 1953!

  • i wish someone would post the whole movie

  • I think I'm gonna post the scene where they yank the old dude out of his car and hoist him up in the air...."hey help this man out!"

  • I remember the satire of this movie in MAD magazine:"The Wild 1/2, starring Marlon Branflakes".

In one frame, instead of "B.R.M.C." (for Black Rebels Motorcycle Club), a black leather jacket read, "B.B.O.P." (Bee Bop).

  • i never seen Marlon Brando movie

  • DRMC

  • We love our biker rally lol

  • Yes Brando was riding a Triumph but if you look at Marvin and his club they are riding Harleys and Indians. I should know I'm a member of BFMC. Read The Original Wild Ones by Bill Hayes.
