A quick walk around the truck w/ a test drive around the block.
The camera picks up a very 'tinny' recording quality, so the sound doesn't quite do the vehicle justice...I think you hear whatever's closest to the camera(the tapping of the antenna against the body) more than the diesel motor itself!
Diesel is cool but the noise would drive me nuts.

@V8FordV8 He is saying the external demensions of the engine are smilar, not the displacement

@F0ckUtoob youre right. just read on a land-rover engine swap site they were made to replace the 292 in generators.

@V8FordV8 No, displacement is not what I meant. The Cummins/Onan either was designed, or by chance (can't remember) has the rough outer dimensions and similar weight of a 292. B/c it's not even a sleeved engine.
IOW's, a Cumins Onan can fit and has the similar weight (think for suspension setup), anywhere a 292 Chevy can.

@F0ckUtoob cummins-onan 6a is 3.4L. Chevy 292 is 4.8L. def not the same dimensions.

For an suv like a Land Cruiser, I'd go for a diesel engine, either a Cummins or whatever works. I would think it'd be required for such a heavy vehicle as Land Cruiser. It's too bad they weren't offered in the USA.

goog Cummins 6AT...
NOT THE BT!!!! The 6BT came in the Dodge trucks... And has 10 more miles of stroke! Way too much for most light cars and trucks doing a swap.
Cummins 6AT.
It's a hell of a lot lighter than a 1,000lb 6BT. Not as powerful, but you don't need all that power. The same tricks you can do for a big Diesel you can do for a small one.
Goog Cummins 6AT or Cummins Onan 6AT.
It was made to be a Diesel version of a 292 GM. It shares almost the same dimensions & weight.

Is that a 4 cylinder Cummins diesel or a 6 cylinder Cummins? I love the sound of the engine. I can't imagine an early Land Cruiser with automatic transmission, even on a diesel Cruiser. Do you still have the truck or were you able to sell it?

Nice looking rig. I like the Cummins diesel engine. Automatic transmission? I, for one, prefer manual. But other than that, it's a nice vehicle. I also like the steering wheel.
