In this clip: Christian Research Institute founder Dr. Walter Martin discusses Jim Jones and the People's Temple. From an NBC News affiliate, Nov 22, 1978.

In light of the recent "Doomsday Buzz"...it is imperative to share of the dangers of listening to "false prophets" & teachers. Millions are now laughing about something they desperately need to take seriously. There will come a day when we all will stand before God & be called into account for the deeds we have sown. It is as serious as one can get!

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."~~2 Corinthians 5:10

The ministry of Family Radio guru Harold Camping produced incredible media attention to his prediction of "Judgment Day" on Saturday May 21'st 2011. It is not known if he truly believed his predication or it was just a scam to collect funds from his trustworthy followers. Many people sold all that they had for the cause. This was the second time he had made this prediction. The first in 1994. Jesus made it clear in Matthew 24:35~ "But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

Jim Jones was an extreme case of following their leader regardless of the consequences.
He was the founder and leader of the Peoples Temple, which is best known for the November 18, 1978 mass suicide of more than 900 Temple members in Jonestown, Guyana along with the killings of five other people at a nearby airstrip.

The incident in Guyana ranks among the largest mass murders/mass suicides in history, and was the single greatest loss of American civilian life in a non-natural disaster until the events of September 11, 2001. Among the dead was Leo Ryan, who remains the only Congressman assassinated in the line of duty as a Congressman in the history of the United States.[1]

  • Reminds me of Jesus - He said that generation would not pass away until the kingdom of god had been revealed in full.

    Oops!

  • was only wrong on some points? WHAT planet are u from?

Watch out that you do not lose what we[a] have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. 9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.

  • I don’t believe that a Christian would compare Camping with Jim Jones or Adolf Hitler.

Using the name of Walter Martin, who died long time ago is wrong too.

In spite Camping he had some different explanations, then is common, I liked to hear him.

Anyway he was not a deceiver, he was convenced about his doctrine, but was only wrong on some points. But the uploaded isn’t perfect too, as I already showed

  • walter martin was the man! Just google his name for the best apologetics site.

  • Anyone who presents themselves as an "authority," and who behave authoritatively, are dangerous people. Harold Camping presents himself as having some sort of special insight into the Bible, and he convinces people of it because he has the same ego-maniacal impulse that Jim Jones and Hitler had, and the same air of authority, even though he is Biblically ignorant. A third grader could have more insight in interpreting scripture, but a third grader wouldn't have the same air of superiority.

  • @sedg1 Harold is an unrepentant false prophet!

  • I know EXACTLY how Jim Jones, Harold Camping, Hitler and the rest of the scourges "happened": Satan, aka The Father of Lies.

  • I wonder if Alex Jones is related to Jim Jones in any way...

  • Camping isn't the problem, he never claimed to be a prophet nor did he ever say he received any direct revelation from God. He just interpreted the Bible, grossly out of context, and people bought into it because they were looking to a man for answers rather than Christ. All he did was talk, he will be judged accordingly just as everyone else will be. I pray he and his followers repent We shouldnt live as if Christ were returning in October, but rather as if He would return in the next 5 minutes

  • Date setting aside, Harold Camping teachings are spiritual poison that will result in many lost souls.

He teaches a very strange, hyper calvanist doctrine, whereby people have no saywhatsoever in their salvation. They (He) mocks confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Harold Camping is not only a false prophet, he is a false teacher, and an enemy of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

They claim anyone that attending church services is worshipping satan, and the church age ended years ago

  • @CBYakima And what was it ?
