try doing this yourself and see how fast it takes. He is on his own and doing it right. You do not need or want to have every joint on every joist and as mentioned below it is not structural with no loads to worry about. I am doing my kitchenby myself and it is a thing of love and very time consuming. Tip! you have to maintain your sense of humor with your wife while she askes stupid questions when you are trying to perform the circus act on the ladder lol
i would also like to know if you can put a wood plank ceiling right over stippled sheetrock. I hope the answer is yes because otherwise, what a mess....
This is exactly what I want to do with my ugly vaulted, stippled sheetrock LR ceiling. Can I do this over the existing sheetrock, or does it need to come down? And what is the approx price per sq ft? I think my son can do it, if we need to take down the sheetrock I think I will have some laborers come do it, I will need to leave for a few days with my allergies. I think this ceiling looks great!
Don't listen to any fo these comments. The ceiling looks good. If you are a do it yourselfer then that's why it's taking longer then the professional. For as the joints not being on the ceiling joist, don't worry about it. It's not needed to do so, there is no structure support coming from the T & G paneling, and the Tongue will keep the board running true as it get's older. This guy is doing well with what he has. Good job. I'm in the middle of doing my ceiling right now as the same.
or just get a friend to help I m a pro trim carpenter and 1 man and myself could do that job in about an hour or 2 however the tool seems to work i ll give you that
well it seem's to slow for me, doing t&g for 15 years in the white mountain in az. get a air compressure and a nail gun,the gun your useing well run out of gas soon and you well spend to much money in that. when it's cold it won't shoot nails, got one many year ago and trashed it.

One of his joints wasn't even on a joist (and also wasn't mitered) but heck at least there is insulation and today's houses are too 'tight' anyhow...
