November 26, 2011: We see the south tie beam place to hold the first girder beam in place as well to be erected short plate girder. The north section was just place. By the look of this girder, they weight about 15-20 tons a piece with the whole bridge weighting about 150 tons. There are steel beam going in at the bottom of the girders with steel plate on top of them to hold the ballast for the rail. The bridges are self weathering material that does not require paint over its life. This is the first of 2 bridges to be erected over Queen St. The first one is being place this weekend and the other will be next weekend. Since TTC Queen St streetcar overhead has been removed for these erections, the 501 car is using King St until Dec 15. Riders will have to walk to either King or Dundas to get a streetcar to the city core. Once the bridges are in place, TTC will install new overhead system for pantograph for the new fleet on order for Queen as well for Dufferin St that is used a short turn route for both Queen and King Streetcars. There is still one more bridge to be place for GO Transit Barrie line, but no timetable as to when. There is to be another bridge for Bikes as part of the rail corridor Rail Path and no set date as when it will be erected. Once the all the bridges are in place, there will be 8 for GO and one for bikes.
