National Academy of American Scholars (NAAS) presents its first annual NAAS Male Athlete of the Year award. Unlike the annual Associated Press awards, NAAS Awards are not tied to marketing or hype. The first recipient of the NAAS Male Athlete of the Year award is Usain Bolt. He was our unanimous choice because of his display of superior athletic talent, supreme confidence, ethics, and integrity. Unlike the AP, we do not believe that a skill-intensive sport like swimming merits the same respect as an original Olympic event like Track & Field. Track & Field requires transportable speed, power, finesse, agility, and quickness; virtually no "Swimming champion" has these basic components of athleticism that can be transferred to other main stream sports like soccer, basketball, football, and baseball. NAAS presents a line of collegiate apparel, in addition to its sponsorship of merit-based awards. Past awards have ranged from $5000 to $25,000.00. NAAS-NEWS is an independent news division subsidiary of National Academy of American Scholars. NAAS is a private organization that features a subscription service for access to special news, and we also sponsor private merit-based awards for eligible high school seniors and college students
In all due respect to Mr. Usain Bolt, we improved the quality of this video with an amended video entitled "NAAS Male Athlete of 2008 (Usain Bolt)". Usain Bolt is the people's choice for male athlete of the year. He is a tremendously talented young man.
