@peak199 I agree with what ur saying. I agree with everything rene robert said in the news last year when he ripped sabres management and was crucified by the organization for it. But Vanek played 81 games his rookie yr, 82, 82, 73 and 71. That's hardly missing a lot of games.

@buttkick22 Trust me,I have been a sabres fan for literally 37 years.I am 42 now.I have stayed with this team from the time Jerry King Kong Korab was kicking but when I was a kid,through all of the good and bad years,up until now.I know every move they have ever made.I just don't like Vanek as a player for that kind of money.Not to mention,he misses alot of games(I know,It's hockey).The sabres need an owner that want's to win it all.If not,how can you win it all.It goes from the top down.

If we didn't match that contract then literally all of our good players would have been gone. What were they supposed to do let another team steal him like our other stars? Vanek has some impressive numbers for a guy that's stuck on the pretty shitty sabres. Imagine what he would do in the west playing for a good team. He'd be getting around 50 goals and even more money. They have been some huge busts and wastes of money is sabres history. Vanek is far from the biggest.

They know someone who scores puts people in the seats, but it also wins u hockey games. Your right, vanek is the only one who can put the puck in the net. Two 40 goal seasons and 1 season he was just short of his 3rd in 5 years. Seems like pretty standard money to me. If edmonton didn't give him that huge contract we had to match, he woulda made less....

@buttkick22 well I don't really care about the other players who come and go.I just know they gave Vanek way to much money.They know someone who scores puts people in the seats.It's all about ticket sales in buffalo,and not about building a team.All of those years with hasek,and they gave us no firepower.Now they have another good goalie,and vanek is the only one who can put the puck in the net.He's worth half of what he is getting.I am a sabres fan,but Vanek is way overpaid.

@peak199 naw it's not like they let them go for him. They walked away form Briere (who was only asking for around 25mil for 5 years cause he wanted to stay, biggest mistake the sabres made in a while) because they planned on signing Drury. Drury, like the notorious prick he can be, walked away from the team. We wouldn't have signed Campbell to the money he was asking for reguardless of what Vanek was getting. Look how that turned out, he's been a complete bust for SJ and now Chic. Not worth it.

vanek is a really good hockey player. The sabs need more toughness and size but that doesn't mean Vanek is some sort of bust. It's not his fault the owner is cheap and the sabs play a defense first system now. Put Vanek on a better team with a better set up guy and he wil score 50 a year. Put Miller on a better team and he will prolly win more than 1 cup (he will prolly end up in detroit or something when his contract is up). They are the whole team pretty much
