Scientology: Clearwater Not Collecting Fines on Tampa Bay Online

The city's budget could use it, but it's not getting $3.4 million owed to the municipality.

According to WFLA News Channel 8 in Tampa Bay, one of the biggest offenders is also one of the city's most well known land owners.

Either David Miscavige is going to pay and be pissed about it and subsequently beat his staff more and try to bleed his slaves for more "donations", or he's not going to pay which will lead to another PR disaster - not that it isn't one already. Either way, $cientology isn't making any more friends in Clearwater with this, and it's not like they have a lot of those.

There's actually a bit more to the story than is covered here, though they did an excellent job.

Miscavige and CO are still raising money for this building (dubbed the "Superpower Building"). This, in spite of the fact that they have ALREADY raised over $140 million for a building that they expect will cost about $90 million. Not only that, but if it's ever completed, they're expected to deliver SUPER POWERS. The problem with this? There are no such things as SUPER POWERS!

Looks like David Miscavige didn't think this through (what a surprise). Then again, he came up with the idea to distract from the Lisa McPherson case, so I guess he was desperate - and it was of course a great opportunity to ask for more "donations".

update - Aug 31 - 2010 The Scientologists have still not finished their Super Power building - they will never pay the fines - the fines will be forgiven or swept under the rug by the city they own & control.

This sounds like, COS is going to meet with their friends on the council and try to see about getting most or all of those fines expunged. I bet that is exactly what they are going to try to do.

Thx for posting. More "friends" for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater & everywhere, really. And huge amounts of "goodwill" for it & its leader, *tiny-furry fists of fury* David Miscavige.

Great report! Thanks for uploading. Having raised way more than enough money for the super power building they really can afford to pay the city. I can't wait for it to be finished and for people to realize that they paid all that money only to see that those powers don't exist. When is it the building supposed to FINALLY be finished again?
