This presentation and story was created by Ms Claudine with the help of her students and IT teacher Mr Grima at St Ignatius College, Siggiewi Primary.
First, the topic was introduced when pictures (prepared by the teacher), were shown to the kids to emphasise the importance of hand washing example after touching a pet, playing at the park, making crafts and touching our nose or mouth (especially when sick).
It was drawn to their attention that the sequence of pictures lacked sound and text and needs to form a proper story like when reading books online. The children discussed what sentences to write under each picture with the teacher. Some typed the sentences under each picture on the software Microsoft Office Powerpoint. Next, the pictures with the text were imported onto the program Microsoft Photostory.
Afterwards it was time for "recording point"! Some children were invited to add voice to the sentences by recording their own voice whilst reading them.
This way of working was really fun for the kids as they were creating their own story in a very informal way while making use of IT tools. The recordings allowed the children to then listen to their own voice thus making them more aware of the importance of good pronunciation. This activity also provided a good opportunity to practice writing and speaking skills. Children worked in pairs or together as a group.
Finally the teacher added some background music and motions to the pictures.
The children are very proud to have created this presentation and is now accessible to their parents, relatives and friends. :)
