the mini is rear or front weel drive???

Very nice A series motor. Don't listen to some idiots and put a K Series motor in it.

lotus is a lot more money, plus, mini`s are more desirable, look, there goes "another" lotus, havent seen one of them in about 5 mins, mini are different and no matter what one you drive, you get nice looks all the time.

K-series are reliable now, with the new head gasket and rail. Why fit an absolutely gruntless Toyota-engine? 48lbs/ft at 6700rpm? No thank you.
-
K-series reliable? who's leg are you trying to pull? A series all the way for me esp with a 16v head on it - K series should have been brilliant (long dowel design etc) - It wasn't. Besides you need the sump mounted gearbox to make it sound like a mini. If I were looking else where for a non a-series, I'd go with the Toyota 4E-FTE and gearbox - fit easily, 1300cc and can push out way over 200bhp but the standard 135bhp would be plenty for me and reliable

I respect this KAD engine big time but isnt it time the 50 year old mini engine was binned. You have a 160 lotus. I have a 160 mini which blow your exiges power to weight out of the window. Rolling road says 165 at flywheel and now weights 600kg. Engine will do 120.000mile and will return 45mpg in a mini. Lighter than A series by 20kg. 5 speed gearbox which i can buy anoughter for £50 down scrappy.

I drove one daily for 2 years.....probably did more miles than all of the vtec / k series / vaux converted cars put together......horses for courses.

Nice motor mate!

Dont see the point of this engine. It will last about 5000mile and your stuck with a 4 speed straight cut box. You could get a allspeed subfame and 1.8 k series vvc for £2000. You would have 160bhp standard and 115hp at 3500 rpm. Plus a reliable engine geared to 150mph. And the k series is lighter than the A series.

Depends if you fancy a scrapheap challenge doesn't it? It isn't everyone's cup of tea. Not being dismissive of what you propose but there are plenty of issues to solve with a K series, VTEC etc. You are also quite wrong on the life of the engine, we have built enough of these to know what level of reliability is achievable
