I'd like to add that if you're going to go to the extent of using a Mac Mini as a media player, you should go the whole hog and get a decent amp which accepts multiple HDMI inputs with one output to your TV, such as the Yamaha RX V2065. This will help your setup in many ways.
I'm still not convinced about a Mac Mini as my media player as I currently use a TViX for this purpose and need to buy a new one. I only have Mac computers at home so figured I would give this a try.
Should I use a Mini?

Thanks for the video. Just a comment: The HDMI port from the mini DOES output audio. I've just installed mine and I used the HDMI port for video and audio. Works fine.
May be the limitation is on the refresh rate? Mac mini seems to output 1080p @ 60Hz (my TV is 240Hz).

@MrTechnoiGeek I used a netbook with XP before the Mac Mini, it worked well apart from when I came to use the Air Video app which needed more power.
