dominic. Complete rubbish. It is a story. It is not a representation of either Latinos, English Americans or anyone else either. It is a snapshot in time of the late 1950s when there were gangs in the US. Times are completely different now, and people are now living very happily in the US.

dominicangator, I think that's the point. The movie takes place during a time of extreme racism, and this shows many of the repercussions. Prejudice is the root of the hatred that the jets and the sharks have for one another. I'm not Latino, so I can't say that this portrayed them well, but I do think that the whole plot is based on the hatred from the racism.

This movie is extremely racist! I hate the portrayals of Latinos. A lot of catchy tunes, but there is no single authentic representation of Latinos.
