The first line of this song was said to me by a woman in a supermarket in Lille. It inspired me to write a song about my travels in 2008 to Northern France. I wrote a bunch of songs on the ukulele when I returned to Canada. This song "Lille" was the first one I wrote. I started it in a hotel room in Lille near the giant L! I have 8 other songs that I will record for my project called "Postcards from Lille."
French subtitles are in the video.
Here is the ukulele sheet music:

ENGLISH LYRICS (approximated)
------------------------------------------

La la, la la, la la... la la la Lille la
La la, la la, la la... la la la Lille la

It's been 20 years since I've been living in the North
Indeed 20 years of having found the place for me

In the North, no one needs umbrellas
In the North, what matters are good friends
Nevermind the rain, nevermind the rain

La la, la la, la la... la la la Lille la
La la, la la, la la... la la la Lille la

All of my stormy past is now forgotten
Even when it rains, the day is still bright

In the North, no one needs umbrellas
In the North, what matters are good friends
In the North, no one needs umbrellas
In the North, what matters are good friends

Nevermind the rain, nevermind the rain

I'm in love with the North from Calais to Roubaix
But it's Lille, the city that has captured my heart

I'm in love with the North, the North of France
When I see their belfries, a feeling of freedom comes to me.

La la la la liberty

  • Why didn't you play it with the Brüko????

  • @torstenohneh1 Warum denn??? I'm saving it for the NEXT TWO SONGS in the collection! Woohoo! (no joke)

  • That's très jolie, Peter!

Did the woman really say: "La la, la la, la la... la la la Lille la"?

  • @floydbluethereal No, actually I dreamt that in my hotel room near the giant "L" building. L = Lille and it's the train station.

  • Très chouette chanson !

  • @Armelle0808 Merci!!!!
