@pazzmodium Also, saying that another instrument or pair of instruments can do what one virtuosic person can is like asking what the point of Woody Shaw being able to play huge leaps on the trumpet when a piano can do the same thing much more easily.

@pazzmodium What a guitarist/bassist duo would miss is the level of communication between the two instruments. Since Charlie has complete individual control over the bass and guitar parts, or at least seems to, he's able to create and improvise on a level that two people could never do. It's the same way that a pianist who starts improvising "out" is able to use their left hand to follow the same line in a way that most other musicians couldn't follow.

@ShadKiklas I really hope you're joking...

As fantastic as I find this in one way, I also find it sort of pointless in anther... Because it's all well and good and very impressive how he sounds like a bass and a guitar at the same time, but....that's exactly why it's pointless. He sounds like a bassist and a guitarist. It's not really creating a new crazy new type of music. It could be done by a normal guitarist and bassist and that kinda makes me feel like this loses a lot of its novelty. Interesting though. And skillful.

Got to love how well he walks the bass line while keeping the lead and rhythm on the guitar. Amazing chord voicings all over the place as well. Glad Tosin Abasi steered me a little towards this guy.
