This is my first attempt at threading the muzzle of a rifle. The gun being worked on is a Saiga .223 with a 16" barrel and pistol grip and bullet guide conversion.

This is not the Dinzag Arms unit mentioned in the video, though the products are virtually identical. I was confused by another order I placed with Dinzag for a different tool. Still, the Dinzag Arms unit can be found here:

  • What is the stock you have on your rifle at the end of the video?

  • @rifledog1 It's a commercial diameter Magpul MOE stock on a CAA/EMA aluminum stock tube.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for sharing your experience. Gotta love the "Tube"! How much of the barrel shroud needs to be removed? Was it dictated by the FH make/model or pretty much standard? Do you think a plumber pipe cutter type of tool would work? Seems it be easier and cleaner than a dremel

  • @TheBuzzardStew I took off just over 5/8" of the shroud and threaded as far as the die would let me. That measurement was based off of the depth of the threads of the FH I used, but I suspect 3/4" would better accommodate a jam nut or crush washer.

I've heard pipe cutters do work very well and leave a cleaner cut. Unfortunately, the cheap one I bought fell apart while cutting the shroud. It did leave a nice, clean, concentric mark on it though!

    Thanks for watching!

  • @DrThunder88 Thanks for taking time replying. I have been putting this one off, cause of mishaps with taps in the past... Should have read your previous replies to posts, aswered the same questions, good advice checking the barrel for diameter discrepencies. What kind of mags do you run on your S223?

  • @TheBuzzardStew My favorite magazines are black .223 Bulgarian Circle-10s. They're the same tough steel-reinforced polymer construction as the opaque 7.62x39mm Circle-10s. Mine required a little filing on the back, just above the catch tab. I also like Tapco Gail mags. They're smooth and reliable too but they don't have any steel reinforcement. My steel 35-round Galil mags are also pretty nice, but some of them will not feed reliably when wobbled to one side or the other.

  • @TheBuzzardStew Oh, and I forgot to mention that I do have a bullet guide from Dinzag Arms installed.

  • @DrThunder88 Also got my stuff from Dinzag, went for a budget conversion, another reason why a postponed the FH install, it is pricey with the tools and all. Anyway, thanks for all the info. +1 Circle 10

  • @zams650 Thanks! Good luck on your threading. Just remember to go slow, use copious oil, and remember to back off every so often to break the chips.

Thanks again for watching and for the kind comment!

  • EXCELLENT video, sir! Thank you immensely for making and posting this! I've got a 7.62x39mm Saiga I'm in the process of converting and was dreading this little bit of the procedure, but you have exposed it for the cake walk it appears to truly be. I'm very grateful that you put the time into making this video available to random strangers such as myself. Your work is appreciated!
