I saw ELP at the Oval (a cricket ground for our non UK posters) in I think 1973 along with Genesis, Argent, Focus and a couple of others which are now forgotten for 70 pence! God how time shave changed. I think it was either the NME or Melody Maker band of the year concert.

angelrocket88: The musicians didn't want to stop doing that - it's just the public wanted something else. Culture and capitalism meet at the low end of the cultural spectrum, unfortunately!

(PS Most of the Monkees best tunes were written by Neil Diamond. They wrote very little themselves - though that was more because they weren't allowed to than because they couldn't.)

This is the sort of music that happens when the entire band becomes inspired toward the same vision.
Why that doesn't happen anymore, I wish I knew. Cause maybe then it could be brought back.

Glad you agree..
The wierd thing is, back then, they picked out four random guys and they called them The Monkees (Fer cryin out loud!)
And even THEY came up with a few tunes that were more inspired than what you find today.
I apologize for even mentioning The Monkees on an ELP video - But hopefully the point isn't missed.
A song is composed, and refined, and created - And the band FEELS IT - ALL THE WAY... And it HAPPENS
Where / why did musicians stop wanting to do that?
There's no desire

Music is all about simple things today. The music by ELP is emotional to me and it is has nothing to do with whining like some bands. It touches a sense that barely any music can. It does not care what rims are on your car or what's in your bank account. It is music that is almost otherworldly.
