Karl Rove stepping down

President Bush's senior political advisor is stepping down at the end of this month. Karl Rove, who's been targeted in the controversy surrounding the firings of eight U.S. attorneys, denied his departure has anything to do with that. In an interview, Rove says it's just time to go. He's worked as an advisor to Bush since 1993 when he ran for governor of Texas.

NASA engineers are deciding whether Endeavour's crew would have to perform risky repairs on the ship later this week. A chunk of insulating foam hit the shuttle's belly at takeoff last week, creating a nearly 4 inch long gouge. That gouge penetrates all the way through the shuttle's thermal shielding. Engineers are trying to determine if that area can withstand the sweltering heat when it re-enters the atmosphere.

A third rescue hole is being drilled for those six trapped coal miners in Utah. No signs of life were detected through cameras and microphones in two holes drilled last week. The miners have been trapped for a week now. A third hole will approach the miners diagonally and will be completed by Thursday.

Tiger Woods is the winner of the PGA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He shot a closing 1-under-par 69 yesterday for a two-stroke victory over Woody Austin. Woods received a winner's check of more than 1.2 million dollars. This is his 13th victory at a major tournament, bringing him closer to Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins.
