This is a demo video for a level made for an epic crossover fangame called Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. The level itself is still a Work In Progress, although most of it is complete. It still has some bugs that need fixing, and is missing the boss battle at the end against General Kelbesque.
The level turned out to be a bit longer than I anticipated, so I had to cut out a few parts of the video to make it less than ten minutes.

The level itself is based off of the Mt. Sabre region from an old NES action-RPG called Crystalis. Most of the enemies are based off of enemies from the original game, along with a few enemies from other RPG-style games. The terrain is a modified version of the Mt. Sabre tileset from the original game.

Thanks to The Pixel Paradox for allowing use of his Mt. Sabre Techno Remix for the level.
The Crystalis Cave theme redux was done by me.

  • I can't really tell if it's the drawing, the horizontal movement engine, or simply just the sprite animations that weren't made correctly. But it looks like that mario is constantly moving back and forth by 1 or 2 pixels. Anyway you should fix that because it looks pretty bad compared to the rest of the level, which is quite amazing.

  • That's probably due to the frameskip feature. My recording software caused a major amount of lag, so I had to up the game's frameskip rate to about 2 in order to get a good video recorded.

  • WHERE'D YOU GET THOSE SPRITES! sorry for yelling im just so damn excited im trying to recreate crystalis for pc i need every resource i can find for creating the game can you help?

  • You are awesome for doing this.

  • Excellent game idea. I thought I was the only that envisioned some sort of Mario/Crystalis crossover. The idea of using Crystalis enemies (plus the Zelda Tektites) is novel. Have you used or considered using Super Mario RPG enemies in some of your levels?

  • This is even better than those MKF videos I was watching 8-10 months ago... I hope this project gets finished and freely playable for the public. It would shake the hack industry.

  • Solid programming. I would confess Super Mario Collision Course but it is on the edge of cancelation.

  • Crystalis is a fantastic games. I hope more stages will be based upon it. And wouldn't it be awesome if the ogres' attack would spawn rocks that hurt you, it would give them a little more edgy boss feeling.

  • Very good stuff.

  • How come when you "shell kick", the point vaules don't go up? I see it happen a couple times in this video, but it stays at 100 points a kill all the way.
