  • @NikoisBack Jaco had a habit of naming things "Something of Doom" He named the trio, plus he called his fretless jazz bass the Bass of Doom.

  • Anyone have a chart for this?

  • It shouldn t be called trio of doom. It is not appropriate because John is still alive. Don't forget two are dead. I am bit superstitious and also musician have a short lifetime. They all die young.

  • @Parvenu333 Oh okay, I think there were pretty great, but I would agree though that it's not there full potential, I think they just got together to have a little fun, which is why it was probably a short lived group.

  • @Craiglend This particular track is not that bad, except that he doesn't lock with Tony at all. The groove feels like shit on this tune. Maybe they needed someone to comp, because it sounds empty, and neither Jaco nor Tony sound good at all, especially during the swing section.

As for Jaco's solo on this tune, what the fuck is he doing? He is establishing nothing in terms of harmony. The entire album is the same way. These three never got along musically or otherwise.

  • @Parvenu333 I'm curious to know what you think sucks about the bass playing here.

  • @mrskapp This doesn't swing because it's a rock groove. Eighth note feel, not triplet. Then again, Jaco's playing sucks dick on this album.

  • @nititomestrel they made various takes, if you get the disc you will hear many of the tracks are alternate takes of the first ones, maybe that will answer your question. Peace and Jazz...

  • this guys were way advanced , back in their days, and still sounds as fresh to me, as if it was made yesterday, of course listening to music every day and trying to play it, surely will help you (us) appreciate the good stuff. not everybody likes this. but like it or not JAZZLIVES! peace mothe'fuckas!

  • @mrskapp you say this as though swing was the only thing jaco was trying to do with his playing. seems ignorant and egotistical to say about a jazz artist, and not just another lame swing musician with the creativity and originality of a factory-made doorknob, and the expression of a long fart. Though many bassists sound very good, more should try to express themselves artistically, really get their feelings out, instead of just doing what they're told, then people would dance more.
