www.mckeewildthings.com Mechanical leg extensions for the Farscape character "Namtar", Series 1 episode 9 "DNA mad scientist" from 1999.
These are being tested by Adrian Getly in the grounds of Fox Movie Studios, Moore park Sydney Australia.
These extensions were a development of an earlier system by Dave and Lou Elsey and used in a Soccer Playing Demon TV advert.
The extensions pivot at the base where the toes contact the ground. Springsteel bundles take the weight off the wearers thighs and allow the wearer to relax and sit in the harness. This was integrated into an elaborate costume which included mechanical finger extensions and animatronic Alien face.
Adrian after some practice could stride at a very fast running pace too quick for me to keep up with.
He really needed a crash helmet!
Adrian wore this for about ten hours a day for at least a week of shooting and was acting up a storm the whole time.
Congrats to Adrian: Make-up artist, gymnast, actor, crashtest dummy!

  • Those are the WETA legs built for Underworld, then sold on the market, when not enough orders were taken, they cancelled them. Area 51 then bought them, and are currently selling them.

  • @kusanagisama

    What are you referring to?

The stilts in my video have nothing to do with weta or underworld and were made in 1999 for the Farscape TV series.

Look at my response video to see how they were used in the TV series as part of an Alien character "Namtar" in the Episode "DNA mad scientist".

  • I actually noticed them while watching the episode and thought they were very cool!

Looks like there's not really any ankle flexibility, is that right?

  • @abnunga

That's right. The area where Adrian's real ankle is did not flex.

The toe section where there is ground contact did flex though. Check out the other vid that features the face and claws and you can see the ground contact flexing

    Hi Corey.

These will place a great amount of effort on your folks joints. They are tricky to balance on . Similar to buying your ailing Dad a pair of roller blades if you get my drift.

  • hahahahaha looks like an alien
