Achieved!

When Achieve! The Campaign for NC State began, the goal seemed daunting. Only a handful of universities had set their sights this high.

But this is North Carolina State University. A place where alumni, faculty, staff, students, business and government leaders and the community all get involved. A place where we don't dream about the future. We hold it in our hands. Right now.

The Achieve Campaign inspired many to give in so many ways. You gave your time, resources, and most of all, your passion. You were inspired to give. And you were all inspired for different reasons.

For some, it was the belief that when brilliant minds have the resources to do exactly what they envision, amazing breakthroughs can occur.

Others were committed to the idea that everyone deserves an education. That the next Nobel Prize winner or Olympic medalist shouldn't be held back because they couldn't afford college.

Inspiration also occurred through memories of a loved one, their loss resulting in stunning beauty and a lasting legacy.

Still others were impressed, not by the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.

The desire to give was also inspired by a commitment to rebuild and transform a community, an industry, and-in the process-people's lives.

And finally, inspiration happened on beautiful NC State afternoons, to the sounds of giants colliding, felt hitting nylon, rubber swishing through cotton, thousands of screaming Wolfpack fans.

Each one of us had our own reason for giving. But what we all share, what makes us NC State, is our unwavering commitment to never, ever give up.

Your time, your passion, your commitment and your generosity have made the Achieve Campaign a phenomenal success. Thanks to you, what was once thought impossible, has became a reality.

Isn't it amazing what a little inspiration can achieve?

But even more amazing are the results your generosity has created, and will continue to create. When combined with NC State's long-standing commitment to real-world education, your generosity becomes an engine that drives innovation that makes a difference in people's lives. That creates great thinkers for the new century. That generates jobs for our new high-tech economy. Because at NC State, we understand that if you let the problems of today wait till tomorrow, tomorrow will be a problem. At NC State, red means go.

I am an ESL instructor at NC State and use this video in my pronunciation class. Students analyze the speaker's thought groups, phrase focus, and intonation patterns. He is a perfect example of how a well-educated, but still folksy and slightly-accented, person should speak. Good job!
