McLuskey deserves massive credit for telling the world how Gary was totally doen over by the moronic media. Remarkable how seriiously influential and cool Numan is today. I wonder where the right on journalists who dissed him are? Oh, working for the mainstream press - middle class wankers.
@Spion62 I tell you Spion62 Gary is the underdog of the underdog. Maybe he should have moved to the US years ago instead of as how I read recently he's trying to do that now. In any case Gary looks real good in what he's wearing there talking to Noel Edmonds, I love what that jacket does for him!
And blow me down because Max Factor pan cake in No. 28 must be the lightest color they make then because I can't tell the difference between that and the white.
@Spion62 But other British artists and bands never got press that was half as bad as Gary's, and even these other artists like David Bowie, Brian Eno, Mick Jagger and Phil Lynott had to go on about how they didn't like him. It's like Gary had to be eradicated from the Earth! LOL Why? Nobody tried that hard to ever eradicate them.
@Spion62 Exactly people for the past few years have been going on as if the music around 1978 to 1981 was punk, Joy Division, The Specials, and Madness! And it's like no! Gary Numan had packed up filled to the brim concerts in Britain back in those days and he was on TOTP all the time!
I don't know for the life of me know what the man did wrong! David Bowie, Phil Lynott, Brian Eno, Mick Jagger and the press they all had to lambaste this guy. Did he make a pass at their mothers?
Gary said how the press hated him because they thought he was arrogant in interviews and such but I don't see any rudeness & arrogance in these interviews on Youtube anyway. Gary has and still has this soft, sweet, nervous, unsure little voice & I can't picture him being rude or stupid like that at all!
Maybe Gary was only arrogant to the newspaper/magazines press?....
Numan never gets the gredit he should,I had a Sataday job in a music shop in 1979 and after in was on Top of the Pops, the only Syntherziser in the shop was a Korg Micro preset, been in there for months,we could have sold it 10 times over, and it was £300 that was about 6 weeks wages then.
John Foxx another giant in there. OMD's Andy McCluskey of OMD was right is saying Numan was attacked by the music press. He came out of nowhere and put out 3 huge records one after another. Cars is probably my leadt favorite song on Pleasure Principle. Great album.

He's a top bloke, largely ignored these days but still makes great music, he opened the door for many other synth based bands.
