Indian student protest Melbourne Australia 31/05/09 6

I'm not sure who the politician was who was speaking over the megaphone, but he sure seemed unpopular with the white protesters in the crowd. (Add a comment if you know his name...)

I shot this in Melbourne Australia May 31 2009. Indian students have been attacked in Australia and the crimes are racially motivated. Some attacked with screwdrivers, others sliced open, and others beaten senselessly. Videos of these attacks are posted elsewhere on this site. Australians are in denial that any racism is occurring despite the disproportionate number of attacks against Indians. Nothing can be done until Australia is willing to take an honest look at itself and the problem it has with racism. The protest was huge, completely filling up the streets, blocking the trams and traffic. It progressed to the Victoria Parliament house, then after the rally there it progressed once again through the streets all the way to Flinders Street station, where it went on into the night. It was heartening to see such a turn out in support of those attacked and against the indifference of the Australian authorities.

Yeah, we get it... Australia is a dangerous and unsafe place to be. And it's racist past goes right up through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and continues to this day. It's a horrible place to immigrate to, and no one should go there. The Australian people don't welcome foreigners. And foreigners are better off not knowing Australians and dealing with their mental and cultural problems. I think it's settled. It's the trashy, uncultured, and ignorant version of the UK.

@AustralianAreRacists : Aus Immigration would never allow that many Indians (or anyone else) to move there. Even now they give people the hope of getting P.R. there, and then after they have paid taxes and thousands of dollars in fees, they will deny them. Then they will tell them they can try again if they want. It's a bit of a scam. They are happy to take your money, they just don't want you to be there. The only way that many Indians could get to Aus is if they forcefully invaded the place.
