This week Scott gives us some pointers on making your own grids and snoots for dedicated flash units such as the Nikon SB800 or the Canon 580EX. These handy and cost effective little modifiers can give you that extra touch of control when lighting a subject without breaking the piggy bank. See the Weekly Photo Tips blog for additional links and information on this great photographic DIY project.
@gileco Well, the first grid I ever owned was a HONL grid. I spent $30.00 on it. Unfortunately, it was in a small bag of accessories that was stolen out of my car. A friend of mine had built his own grids out of cardboard, duct-tape and drinking straws. So, I decided to try his method. It cost me less than $3.00 in materials, took me less than 10 minutes to assemble, and I found it worked just as well as my $30.00 HONL. So, if spending money for no real reason is "unprofessional", so be it.
