@ Polka23dot: a gimbal-mounted mirror on an aircraft can ensure that the transmitting and receiving planes are parallel. Real world testing of the laser beam by two defense contractors has affirmed the power transmission efficiency of 25%. Re fuel cells: there are a number of applications in which a propane powered fuel cell is inappropriate and/or unsafe. Finally, any fixed energy storage device will run out of power. LM's unique value is endless recharging of fixed energy storage devices.

LaserMotive technology has been defeated by fuel cell technology. A fuel cell called ROAMIO D245XR powered ground robot for over 12 hours, and a hand-launched drone (UAV) in excess of 10 hours. The fuel cell is made by Ultra Electronics. It makes 245 watts of 28 VDC electric power while consuming 112 grams of propane per hour. The fuel cell weighs 2.6 kg and costs about $29000. One year ago the U.S. government gave Ultra Electronics $2 million to develop fuel cells for unmanned ground vehicles.

I encountered Jordin Kare on sci.space.tech newsgroup many times and I liked all his posts. I also had contacts with Leik Myrabo, who is trying to power small helicopters with microwaves. Myrabo's idea makes more sense because even very low intensity scattered near-infrared light can damage human retina, and because microwaves can penetrate fog, rain, and snow (laser beams cannot). I dislike this video because it is made like a commercial, it is misleading, and is totally devoid of facts.

LaserMotive uses diode lasers made by nLIGHT. They are very efficient: 47% efficiency at 660nm, and 73% at 980nm. The efficiency of best solar cells is 43.5%. LaserMotive website claims the overall efficiency of 20% to 25%, but this claim is based on wind tunnel test. The overall efficiency may be that high for a helicopter, but it would be only a few percent for an airplane because the solar cell is not perpendicular to the laser beam, and it reflects the beam instead of absorbing it.

pero aun así necesitan de un combustible?? o solo necesitan la energía del láser ?

I'm so sad Tesla was killed and now we have these suckers who give access to military for their inventions. Tesla wouldn't let this happen.

Will you sell your secrets and inventions to the Chinese like many American companies? Because if you have your stuff manufactured there, it's as good as stolen. I guarantee it.

Why didn't they just come out and say it their "scientist", is just a Wizard. This is just magic, plain and simple.
