  • I'm sorry but comparing Patti and Glenn is like comparing apples and oranges. They both had COMPLETELY DIFFERENT views on the character. Also Patti had to sing the songs significantly higher than Glenn did. Personally I prefer Patti because I like subtly, as opposed to Glenn whose far to over the top for my taste. But both women were fantastic in the role. Even though Glenn isn't for me I can appreciate her talent and that she did a good job.

  • i wonder if ALW regrets dumping her... mabey the show would have been a success

  • @lcowles Linda Balgord, of the 1st U.S. national tour, sang the songs as they were originally written as well.

  • @KaraokeKid22 Glenn Close was also the original in Los Angeles, where SB had its only US run before going to Broadway.

  • @AngelorPhantom1359 I would only add to this that Glenn Close was also the original Los Angeles Norma, which opened after London and before Broadway. I first saw Glenn Close in the LA production and even though the LA run was billed as preparing for Broadway, Glenn Close, in my heart, already had a lock hold on the role of Norma. I later saw her on Broadway and she was just as impressive then.

  • Such a flat and uninteresting interpretation, I feel. I am far more comfortable with either Elaine Paige or Petula Clark who both seem to know what's what here...Sorry to all

  • She's the only woman who could ever sing this song (and the entire score, for that fact) as ALW wrote it. After Patti left the show, the score was revised and this song was changed to modulate "down" a key so the final notes are reachable for other actresses. It's performed with the key change to this day. No one sings it as written, except Patti. Rock on, Patti!

  • SO freakin' much better than Glen Close... Oh why couldn't they have stuck with Patti???

  • shes my hero im so sad at what happened to her at this show.. damn webberm, i lovED him too..

  • I'm a fan of Lupone (I think she's the closest we can get to a perfect Mama Rose) but I greatly prefer Glenn Close in this role. Close had a raw energy and I think got the movie star aspect of it more than Lupone did.

  • @annalee12345 This is some weird tv bit they did in England to promote it. I saw her live and, while I agree she is reserved in this video, I can assure you it was not the case in person. She was remarkable!
